Wind Farms – Mobile Phone Mast Decommissioned

Rural landowners are likely to lose £100 million in income with decommissioning over just over 13,000 mobile phone masts, because of mergers, and new technology. The landowners receive an average of £7,335 for a mast.

However, this brings with it opportunity, masts by their very definition are where people are, the need to communicate, usually high up to cover a wide area. Where these sites exist, they have a nice base, and certainly have an electrical connection to the grid to power the equipment, so with mobile phone service providers amalgamating, consolidating, and mast and equipment sharing, it looks like farmers and land owners might have a real prospect.

They could have the ideal site for a wind turbine to generate clean, green energy from a brownfield site, the wind turbine installation not even having to cause the laying of any more concrete foundations to do so. This will be a grand solution to the problem, Feed-in-Tariffs will generate an income and the farmer will save money on his or hers energy bill.
